Who Should See a Doctor of Chiropractic?

Chiropractic Adjustment Dr. Matthew Eisen

Chiropractic is the only profession that concerns itself with the detection and correction of spinal subluxations.  A Subluxation is when a spinal bone (vertebrae) is misaligned and places pressure on a nerve that inhibits the life signals from the brain to each and every cell and organ of the body.  Subluxations may result from mental, physical or chemical stresses.

When functioning correctly, your body is constantly and appropriately adapting to stress which can arise out of things like your job, sports activity, breathing in pollution, the genes you’ve inherited, poor posture, or any one of the many parts that make up your day to day life.

The extent to which stress is an integral part of all our lives, for better and worse is amazing.  However, as you are probably aware, there are limits to what we can cope with.  When you cross that line, the body’s adaptive processes start to break down and spinal subluxations may occur or, if already present, add to stress and detract from your adaptive capacity.

Whether you are a mother, or a newborn baby, a small child who is about to enter a new growth spurt, a student preparing for exams, or an accountant who has just survived another tax year, your spine is susceptible to spinal subluxations.  That being the case we should all see a chiropractor to screen for and reduce spinal subluxations.  It is likely that the sooner a subluxation is detected, the faster, the more completely it will be corrected, ensuring the proper development, function and adaptation of the body.  It is especially important for children to be checked regularly because they are still developing.  If negative patterns are laid down during growth, their potential throughout life may be severely compromised.

As you have learned, chiropractic is not only a method of care to ensure the health of your spine, but is also a way of life.  The chiropractic lifestyle encompasses many factors for those who are interested in being their best and reaching their optimum.  It is a philosophy of health which respects and works with the natural laws.  It attempts to allow you to journey through life in a state of well-being, far removed from that requiring the use of drugs and surgery.

A recent survey of over 2800 long-term chiropractic patients discovered something fascinating.  People who received regular chiropractic care reported ongoing improvement in health, well-being and quality of life.  Those patients were not receiving care because they were sick, but because they wanted to be their best.  The longer they received chiropractic care the higher their level of health.  These results open the door to the question, “what limits are there to optimizing our physical and mental well being when the effects of spinal subluxations are minimized?”

If we look at health as a journey, and not a destination, there is always something we can be doing or improving in ourselves along the way.  Chiropractic is ideal for those who choose to embark on this life journey towards being their best.
