If you created a list of the top super-foods that provide incredible nutrition, health, body-care and medicinal benefits, coconut oil would be in the top ten. Millions of people from around the world have always used it for these properties for thousands of years. Used as traditional medicine in Asia and in the Pacific, it has been considered the cure for all illnesses as it is called the ‘Tree of Life.’ Here in the west, we had false reports that the saturated fats in coconut oil and butter were bad for us by causing a myriad of health problems. In fact, when the research was conducted, we found the opposite to be true.

Coconut oil is a medium chain fatty acid which means that it is easier to permeate through our cell membranes, making it easier for cellular metabolism, digestion and it can go directly into the liver as an immediate and abundant energy source. You can take coconut oil one tablespoon 1-2 times a day with meals, salads, sauces or cooking meals.

Coconut oil offers an incredible cooking solution because it can be heated to high temperatures without it turning rancid as vegetable oil does. When looking for a high quality bottle, look for all natural, organic, unrefined, unbleached and unprocessed brands. Keep at warm room temperatures as storing it in a cold place will cause it to solidify and clumping.

Coconut oil is a powerful anti-microbial as it helps kill bacteria causing urinary tract infections (UTI’s), gonorrhea, measles, gum disease, staphylococcus, etc.). It is a anti-viral that can be used to fend off the flu, influenza, typhoid, HIV and other viral infectious diseases. It is a anti-protozoan as it battles tapeworm, giardia and others.

Coconut oil can be used to help battle obesity. It helps stabilize blood sugar and insulin production. The healthy fat, coconut oil is allows it be used by the body to create more energy and increased metabolism allowing for an ideal setting for weight loss. Coconut oil or coconut water can be a great alternative to the sugar-filled sports drinks because it helps with hydration, energy and endurance due to its high content of natural electrolytes.

It can be used as a natural topical treatment as a moisturizing lotion that helps soften dry skin and provide a healthy skin barrier. It has been found to reduce bags, puffiness and wrinkles around the eyes. It helps firm skin as in the case of preventing age spots, sagging and wrinkles. It also preps the skin prior to shaving, removes make-up, eliminates head lice and can prevent nosebleeds by applying a thin coat inside the nostrils.
