Make 2017 Your Best Year Yet

A New Year is upon us and if you are like most people, you will make an annual list of resolutions to improve yourself…only to find that you have veered off track by January 4.  Here are some simple steps to perform to help you achieve your New Year’s Resolutions with ease in order to make 2017 your best year yet!

  1. Make Goals – ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail,’ is a common mantra when it comes to goals and New Year’s Resolutions.  You need to actually write down your goals, so that you are focused on the goals you want to accomplish.  I recommend you keep the amount of goals to be a small amount.  Having 1-3 goals will have you more focused and successful compared to trying to tackle ten different life changes.  Keep your goals realistic – I love to play basketball, but at only 5’10 and being way older than LeBron James in his peak, makes me realize that no NBA team will be knocking on my door, no matter how much I practice!
  2. Visualize Your Goals – Each day you should take time out and meditate on achieving your goals.  Imagine what it would feel like, taste like, touch or smell the accomplishment of your goals.  This will keep you focused on your goals when you can imagine your goals achieved and a part of your daily life.
  3. Daily Reminders – When you wake up you should be reminded of your goals daily.  Having your list posted on the bathroom mirror, by your clothes or on the refrigerator door keeps your goals relevant and a reminder each day.
  4. Take Congruent Action Steps – Goals without action steps are mere Dreams!  Take daily action steps to move closer to your goal.  If you want to have more money by the end of the year but do not plan on changing job positions, then cutting back on daily expenses and saving more will have you closer to your goal very quickly.
  5. Review Your Day – At the end of the day, think about your actions and thoughts…were they congruent to accomplishing your goals?  Learn from mistakes, praise your victories and plan for tomorrow’s agenda.
