Gripe Water for Children with Gas

A crying baby suffering with gas and bloating is never an easy sight for parents.  As a Chiropractor, I have seen great success with these symptoms be alleviated with Chiropractic Adjustments, but what do you do when your baby is crying late at night and the local Chiropractic office is closed?

A natural approach for parents to provide to children for relief is using Gripe Water.  Gripe Water is commonly used safe and effective herbal supplement used to ease stomach discomfort often associated with gas, colic, hiccups and teething.  Gas can accumulate in a young child by the way they drink breastmilk, bottled milk, sippey cups and meals while inhaling pockets of air.  Formulated and created in 1851 by William Woodward, an English pharmacist, who found that babies had relief from gastrointestinal troubles in infants.  Although the ingredients have changed over the years (trace amounts of alcohol have been removed), the current formula helps just as well.  Not many studies have been conducted with a wide amount of participants to prove its overall effectiveness, but from our personal experience – Gripe Water has helped our children during times of gas and bloating.

Obviously if you are not sure about your child’s symptoms or if symptoms persist after using the Gripe Water, calling and visiting your child’s Pediatrician is important to rule out anything else that might be serious.  Yet, if the diagnosis is a simply gas or bloating, Gripe Water might be the answer for a homeopathic or natural approach without using medications.

We have always had a bottle of Gripe Water for all three of our children when they were young and when it was necessary, it provided much needed relief for the child and parents!
